i ALMOST made it, smh. i went a whole week in switzerland without having an oprah winfrey moment (google oprah and switzerland lol). and on the last day, my jamaican brother and i get in a taxi and the conversation to follow went something like this:
*small talk ensues*
JA: how long have you been a taxi driver?
me: you must really enjoy it
taxi: no. i just do it for money. bills have to get paid, no?
me and JA: uh huh…….(thinking 35yrs? you been unhappy for a long time)
taxi: …you from america?
me: i am. he’s from jamaica
taxi: jamaica? jamaican blacks are the most aggressive blacks in my opinion.
me and JA: *blank stare*
me: what jamaicans have you met? all the ones i know are pretty happy, “no worries”
taxi: yes they are happy, but aggressive.
JA: we can be assertive, we say what we mean. maybe that’s what you are saying?
taxi: i take them to be racist
me: and where are you from, sir?
taxi: i am swiss.
me: have you ever been to jamaica? if not you should go. i think you’d have a different perspective.
taxi: oooh no i dont need to go… jamaicans are libertarians, like bob marley. all of his music was about liberation. *taxi driver proceeds to manually increase our fare by 4 francs as if we wouldnt notice*
me and JA: *look at each other with surprised face*
me: so jamaican blacks are liberated…too free aye? interesting.
me to JA: *this route doesnt look familar* sir where are we?
taxi: this is the street way..along lake geneva. much cheaper for you. and beautiful scenery. the highway would have been more money for you.
me and JA: hmmm…i think we would have been there by now…wow we are already at 60 francs…taxis are expensive here.
taxi: yes. everything
**pulls up to Chateau**
taxi: okay that’s 80 francs!
me: how much in US dollar?
taxi: *does shady mental math* $110 USD
me: well here’s $90 USD since i did the conversion already and it’s really only 88 USD. have a nice day and get to jamaica when you can sir. au revoir!
